Clearance of bank between Gibraltar Cottage and St Helena along London Road
You will know from the Warden's blog that the Freehold Tenants have paid for the bank to be cleared with the aim of re-exposing at least some of the rock formations that have long since been lost in the undergrowth and build up of earth.
Unfortunately the weather has prevented us from taking any really good pictures, but this is a view of the bank on the day the clearance started:
And here it is afterwards:
The bank looks very bare in the photograph above, but the grass will come back quickly.
For comparison, take a look at the old postcard below (it was taken from the other side, looking down, a view impossible to reproduce today because of the trees), but shows how clearly the rocks stood out:
